Designing a multilingual global platform to broadcast live content
beIN Sports’ digital spearhead for global reach
To support the group’s growth, beIN sport needed a flexible website equipped to publish multilingual, multi-site content. Miami, Paris, Doha, Sydney, and beyond: 60 journalists and editorial writers in four newsrooms had to be given the ability to easily contribute to the site.
The existing platform no longer met contemporary web requirements and was very expensive in terms of licensing. beIN SPORTS opted for cloud and open-source tech to internalise its sports editorial expertise and build a rock-solid, less costly platform.
Building the best-performing platform on the market
Sports news specialist beIN SPORTS dreamt up a digital platform available worldwide in multiple languages, and capable of hosting thousands of users simultaneously while broadcasting sporting events.
We had to ensure the integration of various video media and welcome all journalists to the back office, allowing them to contribute their content without requiring any technical skills.
Optimising the beIN Sports website
Smile tapped into its expert teams and got to work on to build a brand new platform based on Symfony.
To address traffic challenges, we implemented horizontal auto-scaling. We deployed an AWS CDN network and duplicated the application in nearby regions to ensure global accessibility. Finally, we established an automatic load-balancing configuration and a Continuous Delivery process for frequent updates without service interruption.
Technological innovation to enhance experience
The beIN platform is based on an API Centric architecture, adopting a Content as a Service approach and facilitating integration with numerous service providers such as Dailymotion, Newsweb and Amazon Web Services.
The associated CMS is designed to be ultra-intuitive and accessible to all journalists. What's more, it offers a flexible and robust technical environment that withstands incredible peaks!
