The Need

Migrating a large amount of content while modernizing the CMS and optimizing the user experience

The ICRC needed to update an outdated version of its CMS to ensure security and performance. The goal was to simplify the content architecture while optimizing the site's performance and accessibility. Key challenges:

  • Migrating a large volume of historical content
  • Managing content in eight languages, including Arabic
  • Creating 300 new pages while maintaining consistency and accuracy
  • Optimizing performance to ensure a smooth user experience, especially on mobile

The Challenge

Coordinating and ensuring a multilingual migration while guaranteeing optimal performance and a seamless user experience

The project was complex due to the linguistic diversity and varied needs of ICRC users across the world. The main challenge was to organize the migration without disrupting the user experience while ensuring fast and accessible navigation for everyone.

Our Approach

Modular migration, continuous optimization, and user experience enhancement

Smile Switzerland analyzed over 40 proposed wireframes to develop a modular approach tailored to the ICRC's needs. The main pages were designed and validated. To tackle the migration challenge, several phases of migration, testing, and adjustments were carried out, resulting in a product that not only featured successfully migrated content but also fully editable content.

The Result

A faster, more accessible, and user-friendly site for a global audience

The redesign simplified navigation, improved accessibility, and created 300 new pages in eight languages. Key results:

  • Content efficiency: 300 new pages created, ensuring consistency across all languages.
  • Improved speed and accessibility: Significant reduction in loading times and compliance with WCAG accessibility standards.
  • User satisfaction: Initial feedback from users has been positive, with improved navigation and usability, particularly on mobile.
  • Performance and analytics: Visits are stabilizing following the archiving of a large amount of outdated content.

We are very pleased with how Smile managed the project, particularly their responsiveness and attention to detail. Their ability to adapt to our needs allowed us to deliver a high-performing, accessible site for our global audience.
