The rise of the Internet of Things (IoT), by connecting a large number of physical objects to the Internet, has opened up a universe of unprecedented opportunities in sectors such as automotive, industry, agriculture, smart cities, and healthcare. However, it was when Artificial Intelligence (AI) teamed up with IoT that the market accelerated. Indeed, AI leverages IoT data to offer new services and applications.

Here are some examples:

  • Smart Home: Interconnected home systems can automatically adjust lighting, temperature, and household appliances based on occupants' habits, creating a comfortable and energy-efficient environment.
  • Connected Health (E-Health): IoT medical devices can monitor patients' vital signs in real-time, such as heart rate and blood glucose levels. AI can analyze this data to quickly detect potential health issues and alert healthcare professionals.
  • Transport/Logistics: Connected vehicles can benefit from AI to optimize routes and eventually have safer and more efficient semi-autonomous driving, thereby reducing accidents.
  • Industry 4.0: IoT combined with AI allows for the optimization of manufacturing processes, predictive maintenance operations, and improved efficiency in production chains.

By combining the learning and decision-making capabilities of AI with the data collection and sharing abilities of IoT, these technologies can create intelligent systems capable of making decisions and acting autonomously. This will have a profound impact on many aspects of our lives, from how we travel to how we receive healthcare.

These technologies will clearly improve the way we access healthcare by enabling more accurate diagnoses, personalized treatments, and effective disease prevention. Here are some use cases in this field:

  • Diagnostics: Analyzing medical images, such as X-rays, CT scans, and MRIs, to detect diseases earlier and more accurately.
  • Treatment: Developing new drugs and treatments, as well as personalizing treatments based on individual patient needs.
  • Prevention: Identifying individuals at risk of developing diseases to prevent or treat them at an early stage.

AI and IoT have the potential to revolutionize the healthcare industry and improve the quality of life for millions of people. However, it is essential to note that these technologies are still in development, and there are certain risks and challenges associated with their use:

  • Security and Privacy: The growing number of connected devices exposes them to security risks, such as hacking attacks or privacy breaches. It is crucial to implement robust measures to protect sensitive data and networks.
  • Accuracy: AI can be biased, leading to incorrect diagnoses or treatments. Therefore, it is important to understand the limitations of AI and use this technology responsibly.
  • Ethics: The use of AI in IoT raises ethical questions, especially concerning autonomous decision-making and the treatment of personal data.

As part of the SIDO Lyon 2023 exhibition, we will have the pleasure of speaking at a conference with our partner AWS on this topic. Our presentation will highlight the innovative e-health use case of Implicity and explore the challenges and new perspectives of connected health with AWS technologies. Implicity offers a cloud platform for remote monitoring of cardiac patients. Their platform utilizes the cloud and AI to enable medical teams to be more efficient and proactive, providing a better quality of life for patients while reducing healthcare costs.

We will also be delighted to showcase an e-health demonstrator based on AWS Generative AI at our booth W221.
